INTRODUCTiON ●
Every young person deserves to see a representation of
themselves in the pages of a book. When girls – and especially
girls with disabilities – see role models who look like them, live like
them, and dream like them, they may begin to understand that
their own future is limitless.
This collaboration between the Royal Australian Chemical
Institute (RACI) and Rebel Girls is more than a collection of stories.
It is a celebration of brilliant women in science, technology,
engineering, and mathematics who are reshaping our world, and
a reminder that diversity is not just important – it is vital. It is the
catalyst for innovation and progress. The women in this book
represent courage, curiosity, and resilience. They prove that talent
knows no boundaries, and that the strength of STEM lies in the
richness of perspectives it embraces.
For too long, systemic barriers have told some children that
STEM isn’t for them. This book seeks to change that narrative.
By sharing stories of women with disabilities who have pursued
their passions and thrived, we hope to show young readers that
STEM belongs to everyone – and so do its opportunities.
